In most cases, pediatric procedures are carried out in 30 minutes to 2 hours. Local anesthesia is used in most treatments and the child is awake during the procedure. Pediatric restorative dentistry is not a one-day procedure. Consistent dental visits are vital so the dentist can clean the teeth and thoroughly exam the mouth for signs or symptoms of possible impending conditions. After any procedures, it is recommended that the child has regular check ups, at least every 6 months, to prevent any further problems.
Geriatric Dentistry
Geriatric dentistry refers to the treatment, prevention, management and diagnosis of oral health problems associated with aging. Often, oral health is a reflection of overall health. In older patients, poor oral health is considered a risk factor for general health problems. Older patients are more likely to encounter negative oral health conditions or diseases due to an increase in chronic conditions as well as physical or mental disabilities. For these reasons, older patients form a distinct group in terms of providing oral health care.
